ENTERTAINMENTS

BARTON BROS.' CIRCUS. As soon as the ticket boxes were open last evening there was a rush for tickets, and a very short time after all available seating accommodation was taken up, quite a number having to be content with stnnding room. Messrs. Barton Bros, faithfully gave all items advertised. The horses were of a line stamp, able to do anything asked them. The daring jockey act of one of the Bartons was a very tricky and clever piece of horsemanship, terminating with several leaps on to the horse's back whilst galloping round tho ring. An entirely new item on the programme was a song (suited to the occasion) by three little girls dressed as sailor boys. These little tots handled this piece well, the audience being delighted. Pedro Bros, gave a performance on the trapeze, the acta of one of the brothers holding from his teeth the rings and then a smaller trapeze while tire other brother performed on them in mid-air, being especially daring, and was loudly applauded by the spectators. Their bold and daring flights were capitally done. "Marguerite" performed well ou her educated pony, jumping over flaming torches laid as hurdles. Her performance on the steel wire rope was well carried out, first of all walking and then swinging on it with perfect ease. The jumping feats of the grey, hound were remarkable, the dog clearing its hurdle of liy s feet perfect cleverness. The feat of young Barton, the \ contortionist, was very well done. This lad, although only about seven years old, with a tumbler upon the tip of his nose, lies down, performs on his hoopg and rings, never removing the glass until he has successfully accomplished his acts, and regained his feet. Another interesting item was the treble somersault by one of the performers on the rubber table. The Walsdorf family of nine performers was well received, and carried out their balancing feuts to perfection. The slide made by Jack Tybell, the daring aerial artist, from the dome of the large tent to the ground below (a distance of two hundred feet), suspended in mid-air by his teeth only, w«s wdjf accomplished. Altogether the'publis waa well catered for, and they went away fully satisfied. Mr. Barton announced that it is his intention to revisit New Plymouth in about nine months' time,, when he will bring with him a complete set of entirely new star artists.
