ALLEGED LABOR OUTRAGE
THE LOS ANGELES AFFAIR. By Cable— Press Association— Copyright New York, April 23. John McNamara, secretary of the International Bridge and Iron Structural Workers, has been arrested at Indianapolis and charged with murder in connection with the dynamiting of the Los Angeles Times office in October last. Quantities of explosives which it is alleged were placed in a barn in the city by accused have been discovered. The brother of accused and another man have been arrested" at Chicago in connection with the same offence. A fire broke out on October 2 in the office of the Los Angeles Times, which resulted in the destruction of the building and plant, valued at £IOO.OOO, and the death of nineteen of the staff. The fire was caused by the explosion of a bomb A bomb was also hidden outside the house of General Otis, the proprietor of the paper, but was discovered and removed in time. General Otis had fought the unions for years, and the outrage was from the first credited to the unions.
