After lengthy negotiations an' agreement, covering a period of four and a half years, has been signed between the Broken Hill Zinc Corporation, a number of leading mineß, and the Miners' Association, settling the troubles which have existed for a considerable time. . BOY IMMIGRANTS. Sydney, April 22. The first batch of twelve boys brought out under the Dreadnought fund scheme has arrived. After remaining for a time on the Government farm to gain the requisite knowledge they will be found situations with farmers. MESSAGERIES MARITIMES. Melbourne, April 22. The general manager of the Messageries Maritime?; Company emphatically denies the rumor that the company contemplates withdrawal from the Australian trade. The present contract expires in July, 1912. The negotiations between the company and the French Government for renewal are not completed, but no one is yet able to say what the new agreement will be. EIGHT HOURS' BILL. Sydney, April 22. An Eight Hours' Bill to be submitted to the State Parliament next session will provide for a wide extension of the principle. Government is considering "a scheme for equalising railway rates in the interests of country producers by granting rebates of from 5 to 10 per cent., according to distance. SYDNEY SHOW SALES. Sydney, April 22. At the show sales draught stallions 'were sold on account of Cullen, of Cheviot, Springfield 150 gns, Springfield's Pride 37% gns. Sheep on account of Nixon, Canterbury: Four Border Leicesters, 3 to 5 gns. A UNIVERSITY TROUBLE. , Sydney, April 22. There is considerable dissatisfaction in university circles at the decision of the Senate'to "abolish the annual commemoration. Speeches made at the University Union compared the decision to a Russian ukase; The senators-were described as hidebound Conservatives and their ideas not in keeping with the progress of civilisation and commonsense.
