Captain Defaria, of the Lnsitana, refused to leave his vessel, but was'' at last persuaded to do so by the captain of H.M.S. Forte, who went out in the cutter and begged him not to sacrifice his life uselessly. Captain Defaria attributes the disaster to an exceptional inset of the current. The mails have been saved. It is ascertained that four persons were drowned. The Union Assembly discussed the lowering of Cape Point light, which is frequently obscured. A lighthouse at Slangskop Point was also demanded. Mr. Merriman contended that the recent wrecks were due to careless navigation. Mr. Sauer, Minister for Railways and Harbors, promised an immediate enquiry.
