HOCKEY

The prospects for hockey in Northern Taranaki are less bright for the ensuing season than has been the case since th» inception of the game in Taranaki. The Carrington Road Club finds it impossible to raise a team, and has decided to remain inactive this year. New Plymouth intends to try and place two teams in the field, but, judging by the lack of enthusiasm shown at the annual meeting, this will be difficult. Inglewood can only raise one team, and it will probably be found necessary to transfer Stratford from the south to the north to equalise numbers. In the south, matters are more prosperous. Hawera will enter two teams, and Eltham one, whilst a new club has been formed at Kaponga, and will also compete.
