TARATA SHEEP DOG TRIALS

FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING. The fourth annual meeting of the Tarata Sheep Dog Trial Club commenced on Thursday, and continued on Friday. Thursday's results, as reported in the Record, were as follow: Local event: Head, bring back and yard, about 250 yards; points, head 7, bring back 8, command 8, yard 4, style 5, total 32.—Mr. S. George's "Spy," 26 points, 1; Mr. J. Drummond's Scout, 21 points, 2; Mr. S. George's Loop, 20 points. 3. The judge's comment \va3 as follows: Spy: Cast to right and headed nicely, brought back on fair line, sheep in good position and yarded at first attempt. The style at pen and command were good. Points: 6, 6, 7, 4, 3. Time, Omin 24scc. Scout: Cast to right, went out kindly but rather wide, rather rough turn ai heading, brought back on fair line, got sheep into position at pen on first attempt, sheep were stiff and the dog barked, missed yarding at first attempt and was too wide at times, penned at second attempt. Time, omin 40sec. Loop: Cast to left, but got over line to the right, set sheep, and crossed his head to left; on return he worked steadily, had sheep in position at pen, and yarded at first attempt; style at pen good. Points: 3, 5, 4, 3, 5. Time, 4min 55sec. Open event; head, bring back and yard; about 300 yards; points, head 7, bring back 8, command 8, yard 4, stylo 5, total 32—Mr. W. B. Grant's Floss, 24 points, 1 j Mr. J. Blair's Flip, 23 points, 2; Mr. M. M. Scott's Joy, 22 points, 3. The judge's comment was as follows: Floss: Cast to left, got in on the line, but headed on right side; rather slack in pulling, and did not get sheep into position on first attempt, but penned nicely on second attempt. Points, (i, 0, 6, 3, 3. Time, smin 30sec. Flip: Cast to right, went out keenly, and made a fair head, brought back on line, but rather fast; lost one sheep near the pen. but brought them together again after some trouble. The sheep were stubborn, dog turned tail once, but got them into position, and then yarded at first attempt. Points, 6, 4, 5, 3, a. Time, Omin 30sec. Joy: Cast to right, headed cleanly, and pulled nicely, but poor line; got sheep into position after some trouble; sheep were stiff, and dog split them, but penned; command fair. Points, 0, 0, 5, 3, 2. Time, Omin 15sec.
