A PETTY THEFT
THREE MONTHS FOR MEDITATION. - By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. Mr. Cutten, S.M., gave his decision this morning in the case in which Mrs. Graham, a married woman, and Dorothy Buckworth were charged with having stolen a purse containing £4 left by another customer on a table at a restaurant. The elder woman threw the blame on the younger. Mr. Cutten concluded that her story was false, and that she took the purse and dropped it in her companion's handbag. The police stated that Mrs. Graham occupied a respectable position and nothing was known against her. She frequented races and betted occasionally. The magistrate imposed a sentence of three months' hard labor.
