CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. The Trades and Labor Conference concluded to-day, when the order paper was cleared. Amongst the remits agreed to were those urging the Government to provide a State ferry between the North and South Islands, and State-owned colliers, the abolition of all private registry offices; classification of motor drivers, registration of land agents, separation of the days of general election and local option poll, State supervision of accommodation for bushmen, registration of plumbers, and appointment of public defenders as well as Crown Prosecutors. The conference declared in favor of free, secular and compulsory education, mid condemned the efforts to introduce the Bible in schools or denominational grants. It was decided to urge Parliament to impose an import duty of three pence per pound on skins and greasy wool. The next conference will be held at Wellington. The Canterbury Trades and Labor Council was appointed the executive for the year.
