MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
IN* NEW PLYMOUTH. XO COXIEST FOR THE MAYORALTY. Mr. G. Tiscli was the only candidate nominated for the Mayoralty yesterday, and he accordingly returns to the Mayoral chair for the ensuing year. For the Borough Council there will he no election in the East Ward, as only three nominations have heen received for the three seats, viz., Messrs. G. W. Hartnell, John Buttimore (sitting members), and T. L. Buxton, all of whom were nominated by the Municipal Progressive Association, the first-named taking the place of Mr. W. Ambury, who was transferred into the Central ward at the last moment, as Mr. H. Joll, one of the association's proposed nominees for that ward, was out of town. In the other wards, elections will be necessary, as four candidates are standing for the three seats in the Central Ward, and five in the West Ward. The Municipal Progressive Association has nominated one sitting councillor and two other candidates in each of these wards, and they are opposed by sitting councillors. Seven members of the present Council are seeking re-election, viz., Messrs. [ Hartnell, Buttimore, Browne and Clarke, nominated by the Municipal Progressive | Association, and J. West (Central), H. J. Gilbert and J. T. Mannix (West), who are nominated by other electors. Messrs. F. E. Wilson and A. E. Watkins, ! at present members of the''Council, did not seek re-election. Gisborne, Wednesday. Messrs. W. D. Lysnar and J. Sheridan have been nominated for the Mayoralty. I Timaru, Last Night. For the Mayoralty Mr. J. Craigie, i M.P., Mayor for the last nine years, j and Councillor Beck, a retired farmer, are candidates. For twelve seats on the Council there are twenty-five nominations. For Waimatc, Mr. Norton Francis was re-elected Mayor unopposed, and theru are sixteen candidates for nine seats on the council. At Temuka, Mr. J. T. M. Hayhurst. a former Mayor, opposes Mr. T. Buxton, M.P., the present Mayor. At Timaru and Waimate the Labor Party is making a bid for a share 01 the representation, six candidates in each case accepting their ticket. Nelson, Last Night. Mr. T. Pettit, the sitting Mayor, and Councillor T. A. Field, have been nominated for the Mayoralty. There are fifteen candidates for nine seats on the council. Mr. James Hunt, Mayor of Richmond, was re-elected unopposed. Dunedin, Last Night. Councillors Burnett and Wilson were nominated for the City Mayoralty. For Mornington Messrs. Bridger (the retiring Mayor) and Dickson have been nominated.
For St. Kilda, Messrs. Allen and Ewing. For Green Island, Messrs. Geddes and Lindsay. For Mosgiel, Messrs. In'glis (retiring Mayor) and Quelch. Mr. Moller was re-elected Mayor of West Harbor, and Mr. Butterficld ot Maori Hill. Pahiatua, Last Night. Messrs. W. \V. McCnrdle, the present Mayor, and A. Weston have been nominated for the Mayoralty. Only the number required have been nominated for the Council. Wellington, Wednesday. Mr. Thomas M. Wilford has been returned unopposed to the Mayoralty of Wellington. Mr. John W. McEwan has also been re-elected Mayor of Petonc. The City roll contains 28,700 names. There are 36 candidates for 16 seats on the City Council. Napier, Wednesday. Mr. J. V. Brown, M.P., has been reelected Mayor of Napier for the fourth term. There are twelve nominations for nine seats on the council. Waitara, Wednesday. Mr. Walter F. Jenkins has been reelected unopposed as Mayor and sits for his fourth term. There will be no election for councillors. For the Harbor Board seven have been nominated for six seats. Surprise is expressed at the absence of Mr. G. H. Stubbs, who has been chairman of the Harbor Board for many years, as he had given no intimation that he was not seeking re-elec-tion. • Auckland, Wednesday. Mr. ,T. C. Parr has been returned unopposed as Mayor of Auckland. Palmorston N., Wednesday. Twenty-three nominations have been received for the borough council, and four for the Wellington Harbor Board election. The present Mayor, Mr. J. A. Nash, has been re-elected unopposed for the fourth term of office. Hawera, Wednesday. Messrs. E. T,e Barton (the present Mayor), A. Budge and ,T. Brunette were to-day nominated for the Jlnyoraltv of Hawera. There are ten candidates' for nine scats on the council.
