TARANAKI LAND BOARD

The Taranaki Land Board resumed at 11 a.m. yesterday morning, there being present: Messrs. Heslop (chairman J, Kattenbury and Kennedy. GENERAL. The application of Archie Mclntyre, Angus Mclntyre and A. Sangster for a further lease on the upset values of sections 1, 2, and 3, block 2, Totoro, at present held by them, was deferred for further inquiry. The Auckland Education Board applied for part section 12, block 4, Totoro, scenery reserve, to be set aside as a site for the Mapara School in lieu of other sites chosen in the settlement. —lt was resolved that the application be granted, and an area of five acres be set aside for the purpose. E. Tolme, ranger, reported on the inspection of four holdings. Improvements required £2041; effected £2899. One has not effected sufficient improvements. . H. T. Twiss, ranger, reported on the J inspection of fourteen holdings. Improvements required, £4029; effected, £8876. Two are in default for failure to erect residences. It was resolved that notice be sent to those who have not complied with the Act. Walker and Peak, solicitors, wrote asking for protection of the mortgagee's interest in section 1, block 2, Piopiotea, lately held by A. J. Whittaker.—lt was resolved to inform them that interests will be conserved to the extent allowed by law. i The Commissioner brought up the matter of arbitration fees on section 9, block 5, Ohura, the freehold of which was applied for on the 21st March, 1910, the contract not having yet been completed.-—Resolved that a sum of £5 5s be refunded under the circumstances. SELECTORS IX DEFAULT. W. Hook, section 2, block 2, Piopiotea West, non-residence; forfeiture appealed against,—Resolved that the selector being now resident the forfeiture be rescinded. R. H. Julian, section 7, block 2, Cape, failure to take up residence. —'Resolved that the reason be accepted as satisfactory, and two months' extension asked for be granted. C. N. Shaw, section 8, block 2, Cape, non-residence.—Mr. Shaw waited on the Board, and explained the reason for nonresidence.—Resolved that the explanation was satisfactory, residence to be taken up within three months. R. Glentworth waited on the Board with reference to taking his wife and family on to section 25, block 1, Tangitu. —Consideration was deferred till next meeting. J. E. W. Henchman applied for six months' leave of absence from sections 55, etc., block 4, Paritutu, Spotswood Settlement, to seek work. —The request was granted, subject to terms of applicant's letter of the 3rd inst. • EDUCATION LEASES. The following transfers in Education leases were submitted and approved:Section 105, block 2, Ngaere, A. G. Fischer to .G. Sangster; sections 584—5, 590—1, 817, 821-2, New Plymouth, T. M. Higgle to M.E. Smith; section 04a, block 1, Ngaere,. Ephraim Jenkins to Archibald Hazelton; section 30, block 10, iluiroa, Alexander Brown to H. E. Gray. The following applications to transfer were deferred for further particulars:— Section 2, block 8, Opaku, McGregor and Sochetto to J. J. Hills; section 2, block 8, J. J. Hills to Andrew McKenzie; section 43, block 10, Huiroa, F. E. Taylor to Angus Wright; sections 517 —519, town of New Plymouth, George Rae to W. F. McAllum. SUB-LEASES. Part section 033, Patea, L. M. Dean to G. W. Tayler.—Deferred for particulars as to sub-lease. Sections 30 and 41, block 0. Ngatimaru, W. IT. Wallace to S. J. and W. H. Stockley.—Approved on the usual conditions being complied with. Costigan and Harrington applied for a surrender of their lease of section IG, block 12. J. N. Gamlin also applied through the ranger to surrender his lease of section 520, etc., town of New Plymouth, for a renewal lease of 33 years.—Consideration was deferred till next meeting in both cases. DEVIATION OF ROAD. It was resolved that upon everything being in order the consent of the Board be affixed to the necessary documents for the deviation of a road through section 25, Hua and Waiwakaiho districts. The report of the ranger of the Board of School Commissioners on reserves was satisfactory.
