Two carters at Baja, Hungary, both being in love with a farmer's daughter, agreed to fight a duel with heavy horsewhips, the girl promising to marry the I winner. They stripped to their waists, fastened themselves to posts to prevent their running away, and belaboured each other until the horrified girl ran for help. The combatants were discovered senseless, and the duel was declared a draw.
