The visiting St. John's (Wanganui), bowlers played the final match of their tour yesterday morning against New) Plymouth, a match which 'had been postponed from last Saturday on account of rain. The visitors again suf. fered defeat by a margin of 33 point* The visiting bowlers returned to Wann ganui by the 12.50 train. Scores: N.P. St J. Humphries, J. C. Morey, Lus- - combe, S. Smart (skip); Dickinson, ' Olson, Boyle, Simpson (s) lft IS During the morning some of the ladies who accompanied the visiting team indulged in a game of bowls, the local bowlers taking great interest in its progress, as they seldom have the opportunity of witnessing members of the fair sex indulging in the delights of this ancient game. At the conclusion of the inter-club' play Mr. A. G H. Collins, vice-president of the New Plymouth Club, who, by the way, had been "rung in" as third "man" •in one of the St. John's ladies' rinks, thanked the visitors for having extended their absence from home by a day in order to play this match, and expressed the hope that the visit would be the fore-runner of many similarly enjoyable gatherings of bowlers. Mr. Simpson, secretary of the St. John's Club, replied, and expressed the thanks of the touring company of bowlers for the very enjoyable time they had spent in New Plymouth as the guests of the local bowling clubs. He specially mentioned Mr. A. K. Smart, who had shown them such kind attention. They had been courteously received at the train on arrival, entertained at an evening, taken to visit the bores at Moturoa, and given a most enjoyable drive to Waitara. In the face of such kindness they had felt they, could not leave New Plymouth without a match with the club to which Mr, Smart belonged, or without leaving with him some tangible sign of their appreciation of his goodnesß to them. He- . then presented Mr. Smart with a fine. case of pipes, bearing an inscribed silver presentation plate. WAITARA v. HAWERA.' On Friday last three rinks from Waitara played two matches at Hawera against the local club. The visitors were defeated in the aggregate by 52 points, though they secured the morning match by a point. Scores, Hawera being mentioned first in each instance:— Robinson, J. Hicks, Reilly, J. Syme, 14; Sampson, Bent, W. H.'Nosworthy, Rattenbury, 20. Muir, Tarrant, A. Robertson, Keen, 18; G. Xosworthy, Hellier, G. Sampson, Fraser, 17. Canton, Stannard, Cvabb, Hicks, 25; Knuckey, George, Klenner. Sampson, 21. Totals: Hawera, 57; Waitara, 58. . In the afternoon Keen's rink beat Sampson's, 21 to 0; R. Hicks beat Fraser, 40 to 12; Tait beat Rattenbury, 38 to 12. Totals: Hawera, 93; Waitara, 40. Aggregate: Hawera. 150; Waitara. 98.
