OSSIPOFF. M. Ossipoff, the Russian baritone, will appear at the Theatre Royal on Thursday and Friday, 20th and 21st inst. M. Ossipoff learnt his art at the Moscow Conservatorium, and was for years associated with the Grand Opera House there, appearing in such operas as "Faust," "Carmen," "Traviata," and "Rigoletto," as well as in the works of Russian composers. Hence his declamatory, as well as emotional powers, which have so impressed Australian and New Zealand audiences. Speaking of his singing of the Toreador song from "Carmen," the Melbourne Argus says: — "There have been many Toreadors on Melbourne platforms of recent years, and many of them have been heralded] with a greater metaphorical fanfare than M. Ossipoff, but few have better conformed to the popular conception of the Toreador's song." The Melbourne Age says:—"He is a highly gifted singer, one who has the gift of being highly original, as well as thoroughly artistic. His power of arousing an audience equals anything experienced in Melbourne for many a day." At the recital to be given by this remarkable artist, he will have the assistance of Miss Lilian Edmonds, soprano, Mr. Charles Norman, oboe soloist, and Miss Renec Lees, lyric soprano and accompanist. Seats may be booked at Hoffmann's. The company is under the direction of Mr. J. C. Williamson.
