i. ' WAIONGONA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Last Thursday evening the first series of euchre parties was held in the school- I room. As there had not been any entertainment or other form of amusement in the district for some time, quite a number attended. Play commenced soon after 8 p.m. and was continued until 10 p.m., twelve games being played. Miss G. Hine, with eight games, was declared the winner in the ladies' section, and received glove and handkerchief boxes as the prize. In the gentlemen's section, Messrs 11. Luke, J. Drozdowski and R. KnoiTlock tied with nine games, the playoff resulting in a win for Mr. Knofflock, who was then awarded the prize (an ink stand). Supper was handed round, after which dancing was indulged in until about one o'clock. Friday being a holiday, a goodly number of residents drove to the Bell Block beach for a picnic. A most enjoyable day was spent, the weather, which had at first presented a threatening appearance, clearing in the afternoon to bright sunshine. TARURUTANGI. (From our Own Correspondent). The annual picnic in connection with the Tarururangi School took place on Thursday in Mr. Street's paddock. The youngsters had thought of nothing else for some time past, and on Thursday morning, when the weather looked very unsettled, some of the kiddies looked worried, as they feared the picnic might not eventuate. The weather, however, kept fine, though at times it was threatening, and a right royal time the youngsters lmd. A committee, consisting of Messrs G. LongstafT, C. Street, A. Street, L. Street, G. Giddy, J. Copestake, 11. Copestake, J. Giddy, E. Marsh and F. Bishop, worked with only one aim, viz., to keep the children amused and happy, and they succeeded. Games and races were the order of the day, nearly every child winning a prize. At about four o'clock the ladies' committee, consisting or Mesdames J. Giddy, J. Copestake, F. Bishop, A. Street, S. Longstaff, E. T. Marsh, and Misses Street and LongstafT, took charge of the proceedings, and called the youngsters to tea, where they had a busy time. There were only two events for adults. The ladies' nail-driv- ; ing, which attracted fifteen competitors, I was won by Mrs. O. Giddy, with Mrs. J. Giddy second. The chain-stepping was won by Mr. R. Allen, who stepped to within half an inch. Mr. J. ltowe coming second. The concert in the evening proved as enjoyable as it was successful.
