MOA ROAD BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at Inglewood on Saturday morning, when there were present: Messrs Trimble (chairman), Lawrence, Anderson, Collingwood, J. Williams, F. J, Virgin, Bishop and Corkill. ENGINEER'S tIEPORT. Mr. S. Orbell, engineer, reported that the contractor for the Bristol road bridle had not made good progress since last, month owing to the non-arrivnl of timber. The formation work on the Bristol road was proceeding satisfactorily. In regard to the proposed Upland road loan, he reported that for DO chains the grade would not be steeper than one in eleven. The last fifteen chains, however, followed up a spur on to a ridge, and it was not practicable to make anything like a grade without deviating through Mr. Hurlstone's paddock, where a grade of one in thirteen could be obtained. He hud suggested to the settlers that it would be better to spend the money for deviating instead of metalling. The Board decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Orbell. I FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Hoskin reported that about | 14 chains of swampy road on the Bedford I road, north of Dudley road, required at-1 tention. The water-tables on Esmont! South, Dudley, Hursthouse and Upland, North also required a few days' work 1 spent on them. The Kaipi road required 50 or 60 yards of metal for repairs. He drew attention to the fact that someone was sledging on the Upland North road. No action was taken in regard to the Bedford road swamp or the Kaipi metal. The foreman was instructed to attend to the necessary water-tabling. It was' resolved to write to the settler sledging on the Upland North road, pointing out that sledging on the road was not allowed. Foreman Jones reported that the Durham West and Norfolk West roads required patching. J. Butler had carted out 129 yards of metal on the Norfolk East road, 20vds more than contractIt was resolved that the foreman should continue carting metal on John? road when the weather was favorable. F. Ludeman reported on the work done during the month. He also reported that F. Bishop had finished carting boulders on the Mangaone road. W. Bennett reported that IS chains of new metal had been on the Motukawa road. The Kaimata South road required attention. The contractor for the supply of boulders on this road was not making very good progress. The foreman was instructed to do certain work on the Salisbury road. GENERAL. The Board decided to take no action in regard to the request from the Taranaki County Council a?king the Board to support a resolution urging on the Minister for Agriculture the necessity of continuing the services cf an Assistant Noxious Weeds Inspector in the district. The foreman was instructed to clean outlets and inlet-- to culverts on Dudley road complj> : \d or Mr. Turner. •The decided to pay the cost of a gate on the Ross road to enable trallic to go through Cowley's. This will save the expense of making a track to the ford. Tenders for the supply of broken stone on the Bristol West road were received from E. Stewart (Gs 8d) and Rowan (os 3d). The latter was accepted. The financial statement showed that the bank balance was as follows: —General account, £1738 lis 9d; loans account, £1469 19s 7d. Accounts amounting to £307 9s (general) and £423 12s 2d (loan) were passed for payment.
