A Paris cablegram announocs the death of Madame Judic, actress. The death of Sir Henri Taschereau, exChief Justice, is announced by cablegram from Canada. Mr. W. J. Chaney, chief postmaster at Napier, is spending a short Easter holiday here. Mr. Justice Cooper will shortly leave for England on extanded leave of absence. He will probably be away about a year. The condition of Mr. E. J. Riddiford, of the Ilutt, is causing his relatives and friends some anxiety. He is. at present at Longburn. The champion rifle shot, Rifleman Roots, was tendered a farewell social at lvaponga last week prior to his departure for Bislcy. A London cablegram states that Miss Ola Humphreys, the actress, has married Prince Ibrahim Hassan, a cousin of the Khedive. Mr. G. M. Thomson, M.P. (Dunedin), has been attacked by appendicitis, and is confined to a private hospital, His condition is not at present considered serious. The Rev. Edward Walker's resignation of his pastorate at Halcombe has been accepted by the Wanganui Presbytery. Mr. Walker and liis family intend settling in California.. Misses Thompson and Corson, who weer somewhat severely injured in the Trocadero fire, are reported by the Stratford Post to be making good progress towards complete recovery. Mr. Carroll has received a cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward at Montreal:— "All well. Canadians have everywhere shown great kindness and good feeling towards New Zealand." Sirs. C. B. Martin, who has been connected for several years -with the staff of the Inglewood School has tendered her resignation, and leaves in a fortnight's time to take up her residence in Eltnam. Mr. C. T. Lloyd passed away at the age of 70 years at his residence at Apiti on Sunday morning. He was an old identity, having resided in the Feilding district for some years. For some time past he had been in a very low state of health. Mrs. McMillan, at present in charge of Puniwhakau School, is leaving at the end of the month for Tututawa. The Tututawa School committee sent an unanimous invitation to Mrs. McMillan, who, subject to the board's consent, accepted it. A London cablegram states that Lord Haldane has been appointed a member of the judicial committee of the Privy Council in succession to Lord James, of Hereford, resigned. Lord Haldane will thus be entitled to adjudicate in legal cases in the House of Lords. Another of the very few remaining settlers who arrived at Nelson in IS-W passed away recently at Wakefield. The deceased, Mr. Thomas Kinzett, had passed his 84th year, having been born at Lockslev, Warwickshire, on November 10th, 1820. Deeeeased had some experience on the Victorian goldfields, having been at Ballarat. He afterwards for a time resided at Richmond, but for forty years had had his home at Wakefield.
