A FATAL FRACAS
MAN KILLED IN GISBORNE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. On Saturday night last a fracas occurred in Gladstone road between two men, as a result, it is stated, of a dispute over some money. As the outcoms one of the men, James Blanch, an elderly man, fell or was knocked heavily t# the ground, his head striking the metalled roadway with great force. He was removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, and never properly regained sensibility, despite an operation, and he died last evening at the institution. A man named James Kerr Easton, in the employ of the Telegraph Department, was arrested in the first place, and released on bail, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. On the death of Blanche, Easton was rearrested, and now will have to stand his trial on the graver charge. The Acting-Coroner to-day held an inquest on the body of deceased, and a: verdict was returned that the deceased met his death as the result of injuries caused as the result of a push or a blow from Easton. Accused will appear at the court on a charge of manslaughter.
