A GISBORNE BANKRUPT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Wednesday. The examination was resumed to-day of W. ,J. McMurray. Bankrupt was brought back from Hamilton, and ia still under arrest. Bankrupt had put in his debts at £249, but proofs have been submitted for £489. He said he had had no experience in business, and did not think it necessary to keep books. He was closely examined as to dealings in other places, and the meeting adjourned till April 24. Bankrupt is still being detained in custody. FIRE ON A STEAMER. Hokitika, Wednesday. At nine o'clock yesterday morning, while the steamer Defender was lying in the Grey roadstead, a '/ire occurred in the forward hold amongst the general cargo. It was extinguished by the hose in a few minutes, and the damage is not expected to prove serious. The steamer arrived this morning, and the cargo is being discharged. The actual diuia™e is not vet ascertainable. DOMINION EXPORTS. Wellington, Wednesday. The total exports for the iwelve months ended March 31 are:—Wheat 1,393,77?. bushels, valued at £232,300; oats, 301,244 bushels, valued at £31,430; butter. 307,490 cwt., valued at £1,878,303; cheese, 450,371 cwt., valued at £1,222,303; wool, 182,983,4fi31b„ valued at £i,194,4,34; gold, 48,3900z5., valued at £1,910.448.
