Following is the High Commissioner's cable under date London, April 8: Mutton.—The market is depressed, and stocks on hand heavy. Consumption is increasing, but there is no change' of prices. Lamb.—The market is firm, with better demand, although arrivals are very heavy and stocks are accumulating. Canterbury 4%d, other than Canterbury mBeef.—There has been no alteration in the beef market since last week. Butter.—Poor market for second-class quality, of which at present the supplies exceed requirements. Choicest New Zealand butter 108s. Australian 102s, Danish 120s, Siberian 104s. Cheese.—The cheese market is very firm, with general active demand. New Zealand cheese 625. Hemp.—The market is unchanged. The output from Manila for the week was 31,000 bales. The stock of New Zealand hemp is 606 tons. Mutton and Lamb.—River Plate shipments received during March, 1911, are as follow:—London, mutton 30,075 carcases, lamb 11,52!) carcases; Liverpool, mutton 128,101, lamb 24,736; Southampton, mutton 4250; Hull, mutton 1163, lamb 289; Newcastle, mutton 23,207, lamb 1325; Cardiff, mutton 7706, lamb 812; Bristol, mutton 4352; Ireland, mutton 2934, lamb 1623; totals, mutton 210,846, as against 40,204 in March, 1910; lamb, 169,747, as against 29,533 in March, 1910. Wheat.—The market is dull and supplies are small. New Zealand wheat, long-berried, ex granary, per quarter of '496lbs, 325. Oats. —The demand is falling off. NewZealand oats, short sparrowbills, ex granary, per quarter of 38411)3, 18s; Danish, per quarter of 32011i5, 16s. Beans.—Little demand. New Zealand beans f.a.q., old crop, per 5041b5, 345. Peas.—The market is very quiet, and nothing doing. New Zealand peas (partridge), per 5041b5, 425.

FROZEN MEAT. Wellington, Monday. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has received the following cablegram from their London house under date April 7, ID)]: Mutton.—There is little demand, without immediate prospect of improvement. Lamb.—There are some signs of improvement. Beef.—We do not look for lower prices for sides. THE HIDE -MARKET. Mr. Newton King has received the following cable from his Sydney agents re hides, viz: "Very firm."'
