WHAT IS IT? By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, Last Xight. A sub-committee of the Wellington City Council has for some time been conforrinjr with the representatives of the general laborers in the Council's employ in reference to the demands for higher wages. The conference has now proved abortive, the Mayor having stated toirght that the committee was unable to •I. tide the question of what is a living wage. They must let the Arbitration Court decide that point, and whatever tl.e Court said was a living wage the Council would be prepared to pay.
