THE TARANAKI COMPANY. At No. 5 well good progress is being made with the drilling, which has now reached the depth of 1540 ft.. The formation being passed through at present is not too favorable. At No. 3 well drilling is also proceeding satisfactorily, the bore now being down to 3720 ft. The oil still continues to flow freely, an average of eight barrels per day being obtained. No. 2 still continues the even tenor of its way. Yesterday the still was in operation on some crude petroleum from No. 2, and some excellent samples of both benzine and kerosene were secured.
Visitors still continue to show great interest in the operations of the company, and already this month over 150 have inspected the works. On Saturday, Mr. Chas. N. Taylor, of the Kotuku Oilfields Syndicate, Greymouth, paid a visit of inspection, and expressed himself as greatly impressed with the possibilities of the field.
OMATA PLANT SOLD. It is understood that the Oisbonto Oil Com mi nv. through Mr. F. P. Corkill, has purchased the whole of the Dunedinowned boring plant, casing, etc., which has liocn hiii? at Omata for several year« past. It will be shipped to Povert<- Bnv. where it will be utilised for putting down another well. Buy preference scares at once.
