FATAL FALL FROM A TRAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The body of Ellen Louise Oates, who was killed on the Main Trunk train near Otaki yesterday, was brought to Palmerston last night by her brother, the well-known cycle agent. Miss Oates was 26 years of age, and had been staying with another brother at Wellington. She was not in good health, and was on her way to her brother at Palmerston with her mother. When about two miles north of Otaki she went on to the platform, and fell between the two carriages, By the time the guard could be informed the express was far past, and stopped at Manakau, where the railway men were sent back with a trolley. They found the body terribly mangled, and with one leg severed. TlieV took the body back to Otaki. Death must have been instantaneous. An in quest will be opened to-morrow morning to take Mrs. Oates' evidence and permit the body to be taken to Christchurch for burial, where her home is. SUPPOSED SUICIDE. Dunedin, Last Night. Alexander Wilson, a laborer, wa> found dead this morning shot through the head. He had been in ill-health. The circumstances point to suicide.
