THE ELINGAMITE INQUIRY

LEGISLATION REQUIRED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Some time ago a request was made to the Minister of Marine on behalf of the Merchant Service Guild, that the inquiry into the wreck of the Elingamite on the Three Kings should be reopened, in view of the fact that it has since been found that the islands were wrongfully charted. The Hon. J. A. Millar has written stating that there is no power to grant a rehearing without legislation being passed to authorise it. The Merchant Service Guild is now arranging for a deputation to wait on the Minister to urge him to bring in a Bill next session for making provision for the rehearing of the case.
