McMillan, formerly town clerk of Fremantle, pleaded guilty to stealing four of the council's debentures, valued at £2OOO, and was sentenced to three years' hard labor. A similar sentence was imposed on Wilson, formerly accountant of Fuller, Naughton and Co., for having embezzled £271 of the firm's money, which he lost in horse-racing. WIRELESS ON STEAMERS. Sydney, April 7. Howard Smith and Co. have let a contract to fit their steamers with wireless installations. THE YONGALA WRECK. Brisbane, April 7. The sea is still too rough for investigations. Steamers report more wreckage in the vicinity of Palm Island. CYCLONE IN PAPUA. Brisbane, April 7. A cyclone at Samaria, Papua, on March 20, wrecked many small craft and did extensive damage.
