POLICE COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH, APRIL 0. A »itting of the Police Court was held yesterday morning before Mr. H. S. Fitzherbert.'S.M. ' MAINTENANCE. Henry Crann asked that his two sons Samuel Crann and Wm. Henry Crann should contribute towards his maintenance. He had worked for the Borough Council during twelve years, but for the past two or three years had not been able to work owing to consumption, and was now under Dr. Blackley's care. It was stated that the sons were each willing to contribute 5s per week, winch witness considered satisfactory, and orders were accordingly made for that amount. BREACHES OF PROHIBITION ORDERS. Andrew Thomas McGonagle was charged with having' procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. He pleaded guilty, but stated in extenuation that though the order had been in operation for nine months he had never broken it, until this occasion, when he was suffering severe pain and took some liquor to relieve that. The following day he had to go to the doctor and had been since operated on. Detective Boddam, who prosecuted, produced a doctor's certificate verifying the above statement, and also remarked that be believed what defendant had said was true. Under the circumstances his Worship said that be would deal leniently with defendant, who was accordingly convicted and discharged. Jas. McXiven was charged (1) that he did on March 1, during the currency of a prohibition order, enter licensed premises, viz., the Imperial Hotel; (2) that he did on March Hi procure liquor. Detective Boddam prosecuted and produced copy of the prohibition order. Constable O'Xeill deposed to having found defendant at the bar of the Imperial Hotel at 5.30 o'clock on the evening of March 1. Defendant was asking for drink, but the barmaid refused to serve him. Witness was also watchhouse keeper on tlie 10th, when defendant was brought in on a charge of drunkennness, to which he had pleaded guilty next morning. Accused was convicted and discharged.
