A wave unexpectedly broke high over the promenade deck, and crashed down with great force. The experience was exciting while it lasted. Brisbane, April 1. A gale, heavy weather, and rain continue on the coast. The Palmer and other rivers are flooded. Telegraphic communication is badty interrupted*, and there are several railway washaways. Cairns reports eighteen inches of rain in twenty-four hours. All parts of the district.are flooded.' Hobart, April 1, The Mokoia arrived eighteen bouts late. She encountered a severe gale. , Hobart, April 1. The Mokoia ran into a storm on the second day out from Bluff on March 29. The ship's carpenter, Power, was washed overboard and drowned, deceived 3, 12.45 a.m. Sydney, April 3. The steamer Wyneric, from Calcutta to Chili, via Newcastle, put into Sydney. She encountered the same hurricane as the Maheno. Four hundred tons of coal were swept from her decks, and her deck fittings carried away. The hatches were broken, and a large quantity of water found its way into the cargo, consisting of gunnies and rice.
