VICEROY AND PRINCE
RECEPTION OF THE KAISER'S HEIR TO CALCUTTA. Calcutta, February 3. The German Crown Prince arrived liore this afternoon, and was received with the Royal Salute and other honors befitting his rank. Lord Hardinge, the Viceroy, and Sir Xorman llaker, the Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal, with their stuffs, met the Prince at the railway station, and .his Imperial lliirhness drove in procession with Lor/1 Hardinge, escorted by the Viceroy'.*, .bodyguard, along a. route gaily decorated with (lags and lined with troops, to Government House, amid the cheering of the populace.
On arrival at Government House the Royal visitor inspected the Guards. Lady Hardinge received his Imperial Highness at the top of the staircase, where a large crowd of the German community cheered inni heartily. The Viceroy next introduced General Sir O'Moore Creagh. the Commander-in-Chief, and the leading officials.
The Prince proceeded to the ballroom, where lie received a cordial address of welcome, presented in a casket by the Corporation of Calcutta. In reply, he thuiked the Corporation for the warmth of irreetin'g which if. had accorded to him as a kinsman of the King-Emperor and h great-grandson of the beloved Queen Victoria. He .said:
"1 shall never forget the delightful days which I have snent in (h's wonderful country, and 1 shall not fail on my return to ficrmanv to do all in inv power to encourage the interest which mv countrymen already tal<« in India and in its ancient literature and antiquities."
