Tn the Chaffinch case the evidence given by the Postal employees indicated that certain telegrams relating to the mine were tampered with. Detective Brown deposed that, when arrested, Bon wick stated that firccnway had been driven nearly mad by ft crowd who, at the revolver's point, had compelled him to report favorably on the mine, but Green way cancelled the telegram as soon as he got loose.
