• T:;E .'.iJUITRATIOX TREATY. WHAT THE BIBLE HAS ACCOMPLISHED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 30, 9.25 p.m. London, March 30. The Marquess of Northampton presided at the Bible Tercentenary celebration at the Albert Hall, Mr. H. H. Asquith. Premier of Britain, in a speech, said it surely could not be a worthier or more splendid monument to the tercentenary year than its witnessing of the scaling of a solemn pact between Britain and America, ending once and for all the hideous and unthinkable possibilities of fratricidal strife. The American Ambassador read a message from President Taft, in which he remarked that the Bible, besides reigning supreme in England for three centuricß, bound together, as nothing else could, the two great Anglo-Saxon nations—one in blood and speech, with a common religious life, laws, literature and social life. They owed whatever excellence they possessed largely to this, their chief classic. The Americans, therefore, joined in thanksgiving to God for the Bible uniting the Old and New World by so precious a tic. The Primate (Rev. F. B. Meyer) also spoke. PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE FORMED. Received 30, 10.55 p.m. London, March 30. A committee of Commoners, from both sides of the House, has been formed to promote the Taft-Grey arbitration agreement. A NOBLE JEWEL. HOW THE PROPOSAL CAME ABOUT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 31, 12.40 a.m. London, March 30. Speaking at the Albert Hall meeting, the American Ambassador said the whole of the peoples of both nations nurtured the precepts of the Bible. Then came President Taft's statesmanlike proposal and the King's inspiring response through Sir Edward Grey, which promised to make war or any dispute henceforth between any English-speaking countries impossible, and between any of the other civilised nations discreditable. What nobler jewel, he said, could adorn i the coming Coronation? He concluded by reading President Taft's mess:';-re. ! DRAFTING THE AGREEMENT. Received 31, 12.40 a.m. New York, March 30. Senator Knox, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, is drafting the arbitration treaty between Britain and the United States of America. It will probably be submitted to the April Congressional sesj sion.
