SUPREME COURT
MASTERTON SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Monday. The sittings of the Supreme Court commenced at Masterton to-day befora Sir Robert Stout. The Chief Justice congratulated the district on the progress made during the past 40 years, and the absence of nny serious crime. Only one resident of Masterton electoral district had been convicted since February, 1909, namely a Chinaman. In the Magistrate's Court the .criminal cases showed a decrease from 391 for 1909 to 191 for 1910. He knew of no other district in the colonies where there was such a diminution of crime He congratulated the district on the fact that the grand jury found tru» bills in the cases of Rex v. Henry Walker, a charge of housebreaking at Mangatainoka; Rex v. Leo. Barker, charge of arson; Rex v. Frank Newman Dixon, charge of mischief; Rex. v. John Jackson, three charges of indecent assault. Masterton, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day jn the case in which John Newman Dixon wm Charged with mischief in shooting a bull belonging to one James Turley, Carterton, t)he jury returned a verdict of not guilty, stating that the shooting was not wilful.
