FIRES.
A GISBORNE OUTBREAK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Saturday. Mrs. Lorry's six-roomed house at Makaraka was destroyed by Are at 2 o'clock this morning. The occupants had a narrow escape in their night attire, receiving painful burns. The inmates were Mrs. Lorry, her brother (Mr. Hay), Mr. and Mrs. Ball, and Mrs. Mcßride and her daughter, visitors from Napier. Nothing was saved. Mr. Hay was so badly injured that he had to be sent to the hospital. He had made gallant and successful efforts to rescue the others. The insurances are £125 on the house and £IOO on the furniture in the Atlas Fire Office. Mrs. Ball is in the hospital, but is recovering.
