CORRESPONDENCE
PROPOSED MOI'.NT ECiMONT HOTEL. To the Editor. Sir,—At a meeting recently hclil in connection with the above, and reported in the Press. I noticed that, it was decided to invite competitive designs for a single-storey concrete building, not to cost more than £I2OO. This announcement came upon me with surprise, as I happen to be one of those who hail already competed and whose designs were then supposed to be under consideration. One would think that ordinary comlesv, to say nothing of proper business methods. would prevent those responsible from completely ignoring the former plans sent in. 80 far as 1 am aware, 110 official intimation has been given to the competitors that their plans are finished with; apparently none haVe been accepted, neither have they been returned. This being so, it must seem unfair to former competitors, as well as to the public (cs. pecially those who have subscribed or who contemplate doing soj that they I should not be given an opportunity of seeing the designs sent in, and of forming an opinion as to whether this new scheme which has been suddenly sprung upon them is desirable in the interests of Xew Plymouth or even meets present requirements. The new scheme certainly cannot be called a "progressive'' one. except in so far as future additions and alterations mav be so described.—J am, <'tc- " JAMES T. MAXXIX. ' 21/,'J/M. P.S.—Since writing the above my drawing has been left at my office, without comment.
