MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS
HON. R. MACKENZIE AT WAIROA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wairoa, Last Night. The Minister of''Public Works was waited on by a deputation with refer ence to the inland railway route. He promised that a survey should be made, and the possibilities of the distric\ through which the line would pass reported upon. Replying to the request of the borough council for a concession of hydro-electric light and power from Waikaremoana, the Minister said the whole scheme under the Act would cost three-quarters of a million, and is not feasible at present. Probably the power would be provided next session to allow the council to get a special concession, but the council would not be allowed to sell it. The Minister was favorably impressed with the request for completion of the road to connect Waikaremoana with Roto rua. Instructions, he said, would be given to make a report on the road. Mr. Mackenzie, who was at Waikaremoana to-day for the first time, was much impressed with the district and the lake. The Minister will leave to morrow for Napier.
