A £3OO CYCLE ROAD RACE
HOUND JIT. EG MONT. Arrangements arc being gradually completed for a monster cycle road race round Mt. Eginont about August nest, a fortnight before the Timaru-CErist-church road race, 'in point of value the prizes will eclipse every cycling event in New Zealand, and cash and trophies to the value of not less than £3OO will be given. The first prize will probably be £SO cash and a SO-guinea fhallenge * cup presented by the Britannia Tyre Co., to be known as the Britannia Challenge Cnp. An additional £75 Jin cash will probably be divided, as pell as bicycles to the value of not Jess than £ 125. The route will probably, be from New Plymouth down the coast jto Opu-' nnke, along the Eltham-Opunake road to Eltham, thence along the main road through Stratford ami In'glewood to the starting point. Already information is / to hand that leading racing cyclists from Australia will compete, and there is no doubt that every racer in New Zealand 1 will try his luck. Already cash and trophies to the value of .£l4O is yiromised, and the local prompters anticipate no difficulty in ojjtaijjJng guarantees in New Plymouth for the balance. The liability the promoters are convinced '■ will be practically nil. a« the nomination i money and gate at the finishing point 1 will no doubt more than cover the cost.
