JAVANESE FOR NEW CALEDONIA. Received 23, 9.20 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. A hundred and ten Javanese, including fourteen women, have arrived, en route for New Caledonia, to wofk in the nickel mines. HANDSOME BENEFACTIONS. Received 23, 0.20 p.m. Sydney, March 23. Mrs. Neale, who recently died at Pott's Point, bequeathed £30,500 to Sydney hospitals and benevolent institutions, £4OOO to the. Methodist body, and £IOOO to the Bush Missionary Society. AUSTRALIAN ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION. Received 23, 11.20 p.m. Sydney, March 23. A deputation, including the Lord Mayor and University professors, asked Mr. Batchelor, Federal Minister for External Affairs, if the Government would grant £20,000 towards Dr. Mawson's Australian Antarctic expedition. Mv. Batchelor was sympathetic, but said he did not expect such a large demand. He thought it would be £IO,OOO. He promised, however, to consult Cabinet on the matter. A MYSTERIOUS EXPLOSION. Received 2-t, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, March 23. An explosion among the contents of a basket wrecked the refreshment rooms 1 at Nynsran and injured a woman and a boy. The basket was lying in the room for some time. What it contained is unknown.
