EXTRAORDINARY ALLEGATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Another phase of the well-known Mewhinney ease was before the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Oliver Mewhinney and Jeremiah Stevenson were charged with breaking, entering, and theft at the dwelling of Nettie Mewhinney at Seatoun, where complainant had been living since the divorce proceedings, about May, 1900. It \ms alleged that defendants broke into the house and took a number of household articles. Mr. Wilford, /who is appearing for the defence, said he would prove Airs. Mcwliinncv's story was a concoction. The case is proceeding. Mewhinney is a Ministerial private secretary. ONE CHARGE DISMISSED. Wellington, Last Nieht. In the Mewhinney ease, the Magistrate said he did not think a jury would convict Stevenson on the evidence produced. The charge against him was therefore dismissed. TJie case against Mewhinney will be further proceeded with to-morrow.
