A SHOCKING TRAGEDY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. " Feilding, March 22. • A shocking tragedy at Colyton last night resulted in the death of Stephen Melvin, an old settler. Melvin, who had had an engineering training, was experimenting with an acetylene gas plant made by himself \vith a milk-can and an oil-drum, when an explosion took place, and terrible injuries were inflicted on Mclvin's head. He died in half an hour. MAORI GIRL DROWNED. Wairoa, March 22. A Maori girl, aged eight years, was drowned yesterday at Frasertown. The body has not been recovered. STATION HAND DROWNED. Blenheim, March 22. A man named Edwards, employed at Richmond Brook Station, was drowned in the Awatere river yesterday.
