CHAFFINCH MINE SCANDAL
THE TRIAL PROCEEDING. fv Cable.—Press Association.— Oonyright Perth, March 22. Evidence in the Chaffinch case chiefly relates to Grcena way's reports, which showed that he considered the property of little value, and Dyason and Bonwick's dealings with script on the strength of the first-hand report. Tn a telegram to the directors of the Great Chaffinch Company at Adelaide on December 12, Mr. Gruf, a mining expert, who had been sent to inspect the company's property on the Bullfinch field, said the highest assay of ore found within Ift Cin. of the spot where Mr. Arthur had made his rich finds, was 2dwt. per ton. He added: "A greenstone outcrop is practically all over the lease. Nothing payable baa been met with as yet. \ 0 reasonably promising lode of reef was found. Very little is really known yet of the geological features of the field. On account of this it is impossible at present to form any ralia.ble judgment respecting the future prospects of your property, on which but little work has been done. I should advise systematic costeening operations and sinking a shaft, driving and cross-cutting, to prove the formation. The recent absolutely unwarrantable rise in shades, it appeaKrwas 'caused by the injudicious vAicity given to Mr. Arthur's find."
