The Roman Catholic bishops of Salford 1 and Nottingham and Father Bernard Vaughan applaud the proposals of Mr. Taft and Sir Edward Grey. Cardinal Logue, Primate of All Ireland, whilst desiring universal peace, said that he had no confidence in the movement, while millions were screwed from the poor to build Dreadnoughts. He was not hopeful that Mr. Taft and Sir» Edward Grey would conclude the treaty before better relations with Germany were established and the Irish question settled. DISCUSSION IN JAPAN. Tokio, March 21. A motion in the Diet, condemning the Government's policy regarding the British and American treaties, was negatived by a large majority. AGITATION IN AUSTIITA. Vienna, March 21. / An agitation has been started in Parliament urging the Government to delay the construction of warships, and to negotiate with Italy for an arbitration treaty.
