BURGLARY AT AUCKLAND. By Telegrapju—Press Assooiatisn. Auckland, Yesterday. The premises of Adolph Kohn, jeweller, Qtteen street, were burglariously entered between 9.30 on Sunday night and this morning, and robbed of jewellery valued at £IOO. An entrance was effected through an unprotected window on the side of the shop above the roof of the adjoining premises. The shop and front window were lighted as usual, the window being completely exposed to view to anyone passing, yet the contents of the window were completely cleared, the showcase on the counter emptied, and the floor strewn with ink, empty jewellery cases, and trays. A very careful selection had been made, nothing of a bulky nature having b«en taken. CHARGE OF EMBEZZLEMENT. Auckland, Yesterday. Thomas Mac Donald, 31 years of age, employed as clerk at tne BanK or New Zealand here, and who was four years previously a resident of Balclutha, was arrested on a charge of misappropriation of £2l 14s 3d, moneys of the bank. 'He appeared at the Police Court, and was remanded. EAST COAST RAILWAY. Gisborne, Yesterday. A deputation representing the East Coast Inland League waited on the Hon. R. McKenzie to-day, urging that the Hangaroa route be used in preference to the Mangapoke route for the Gisborne-Napier railway line. After matters had been gone into, the Minister undertook to send the engineer-in-chicf to inspect any of the. routes. The deputation is to meet the Minister again on Wednesday. He has left for Tokomaru Bay. BOY THIEVES CONVICTED. Wellington, Yesterday. Two boys named Sergeant and Dixon were charged to-day on seven charges of breaking, entering, and theft. They pleaded guilty to two, and were remanded for sentence and for the other cases to he gone into.
