YOUNG WOMAN'S SUICIDE. By Tolfgraph.—■ I'iesis AstiOuiatfcMi. Elthani, Last Night. Hetty Stevens, a single woman, aged I 20, the daughter of a local resident, com initted suicide to-day by drinking a poisonous weed exterminator. She had been in a depressed state for some weeks. A MANAGER KILLED. Auckland, Monday. Mr. Richard Ralph, manager of the Northern Timber Company, was killed at Taupiri, presumably kicked by the horse he was driving, when he was alighting from his trap in front of his own residence. LADIES INJURED. Gisborne. Monday. Mrs. R. Fitzgerald had her leg broken through a buggy accident on Ponawa road on Saturday, and two younjj ladies from the Wairarapa received minor injuries. Mr. Fitzgerald had a nasty fall when riding for assistance, through his horse colliding with a calf. HEART FAILS WHILE BATHING. Christchurch, Monday. Michael Fitzgerald, a seaman on the schooner Eunice, was drowned in Lyttelton harbor yesterday. He and a mate went in for a swim, Fitzgerald entering tho water first. When his mate was ready he discovered Fitzgerald floating with his head under water. Death was due to heart failure. Fitzgerald was 32 years of age. KICKED BY A HORSE. Our Urenui correspondent writes that Mr. F. Bishop, whilst riding along tho Moki road, was unseated through his horse becoming frightened at a fall ot rock. As a result Mr. Bishop was kicked about the face, but he managed to reach Urenui, where he was attended to by the district nurse, who ordered him to New Plymouth Hospital, where he lies at present. FATALLY BURNED. On Sunday the seven-year-old daugh-1 ter of Mr. Wm. Gill, who lives near Whangamomona, was very badly burnt, A start was made to take her in to the hospital, but she died when Te Wera was reached.—Stratford Post.
