MASTERTON AND NO-LICENSE
A ROWDY MEETING. By Telegraph. —PreßS Association. Masterton, Monday. Mr, Bedford commenced an open-air address on prohibition on Saturday night in the presence of over a thousand people. He had a trying time, being subjected almost continuously to loud hooting and yelling. Cheers were given for both sides of the question. Thei. Mr. E. G. Eton, chairman of the local hospital board and member of other public bodies, got upon the platform and denounced prohibition as a failure from a business point of view. Mr. Jabez Bridges, no-license organiser, was refused a hearing. Mr. Cameron, another well-known resident, put a motion in favor of restoration, and this was carried by an overwhelming majority. It was the rowdiest meeting here for twenty years. ANOTHER RESOLUTION. Masterton, Monday. At a meeting in the Town Hall last night, addressed by Mr. Bedford, a resolution was carried by acclamation that this vast assemblage of Masterton citizens declares that lio-liccnec is a magnificent success and is in the best and highest interests of the community.
