THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph.—Pre* Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Championship meeting was held in fine weather, but the attendance was not more than 1500. Good contingents o» competitors were present from Southland, Otago, Wellington, Auckland, and the fields in the different events werti satisfactory. Time, lmin 58 4-ssec. 220 Yards Hurdles Championship.— G. P. Keddell (Southland) 1, F. Cook (Canterbury) 2, A. E. Evcnson (Wellington) 3. Won by four yards. Time, 15 3-loset. An Australasian record. Pole Vault Championship.—L. M. McKay (Wellington) 10ft 2in, 1; G. Batstone (Canterbury) 9ft 7!/jin, 2; A. E. Evenson (Wellington) 9ft, 3. The standard was beaten by 2in. 220 Yards Flat Handicap—C. S. Opie (Canterbury) 1, W. G. Harding (Wellington) 2, J. C. Whitney (Auckland) 3. Time, 50 4-ssec, which was 1 l-ssec better than the standard, ana 2-ssec more than the New Zealand record. The gates totalled £llO. Wellington retains the shield with 46 points. Canterbury scored 34, Southland 15, Auckland v 10; Otago 7. MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. Christchurch, Saturday Night. The annual conference of delegates from centres affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held this morning. Mr. D. Hoare (Auckland) was voted to the chair, and Mr. R. T. Wynham was appointed secret tary. Mr. Pollock moved that the allocation of the Australasian championship meeting is entirely a matter for the council, but the motion was lost by seven votes to five. Subsequently it was agreed that Vie next Australasian championship meeting should be held at Duncdin. A motion by Mr. Short that the conference strongly recommends/fixing the date of the New Zealand championship meeting for the month of' February was carried unanimously. Mr. Keddell moved that the next New Zealand championship meeting should be held in Southland, and the motion was agreed to. , The conference unanimously supported , a suggestion from Otago that an Athletic Calendar should be published in New Zealand. A motion that a new centre of the Association should be established in Westland was, after discussion, permitted to lapse. A motion, moved by Mr. Diver, that amateurs Bhould be allowed to compete with professionals at trade picnics and similar gatherings was defeated. It was agreed that a fund should be established to send representatives to the Olympic Games and the Festival of Empire, and that New Zealand should have separate representatives from Australia in the Olympic Games.
