MOA ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board, was held at lnglewood on Saturday, Present: Messrs. H. Trimble (chairman), F. J. Virgin, F. J. Colling- 1 wood, W. B. Bishop, A. Lawrence, R. J. Williams, M. F. Anderson, and A. Corkill. ENGINEER'S REPORT. 3lr. S. Orbell, the engineer, reported that the Bristol road lunnation and metalling were practically completed. All the piers of uie Bristol road bridge across the Mangihui river had now been built up to the level of the girders, and the work was proceeding saiisiaetorily. Tenders had been caileu tor the road formation on the other side of the river. The following tenders were received: Boldt and Stewart, £B9 3s, including GO pipes at 4s (accepted); J. Tarry, £IOO and pipes lis each; 11. Mckay, £l3O 13s 4U, and pipes 4s each; ,j. Sclireider, £'J, and pipes 3s (id each. Members were of opinion this last tender was a mistake. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Bennett reported that 13% chains of new metal had been put on Motukawa road, and 130 yards of broken metal had been delivered on Kupara road, metalling ly 4 chains. Ratapiko road was' breaking up, and getting very rough.—The foreman was instracV ed to attend to Ratapiko roiid as soon as Motukawa road is completed. Foreman F. Ludeman reported that he had commenced stripping gravel on the Everett road. Pipes and filling had been raised on Richmond road. About three chains of formation was required on Suffolk road—lt was resolved to call for tenders for 80 yards of broken stone on Bristol west. The broken metal is also to be put on Mangaone road. Foreman Hoskin reported that planks were required oa bridges on Bedford road south, the Waiongona-iti bridge on 1 flic Hursthouse road, and the Mangaoraka bridge on the Lepper road south. Some stones on Egmont south road were broken too large, and he refused to pass them. He could not get any stonebreakers for Egmont road south. Foreman R. Jones reported that various contracts were finished, but Mr. Tarry had carted out 143 yards instead of 100 yards on the Durham road east. A bad place on John's road near Mr. Kendrick's required attention.—lt was resolved to pay Mr. Tarry in terms of the specifications, i.e., half-price on 43 yards metal extra delivered. EVERETT ROAD METAL. Messrs. Trimble and Lawrence reported that they had visited this district and inspected supposed deposits of metal. There were good indications of metal, but the cost of opening pits would be too great for a small extract. There was a seaim of gravel near Mr. Bishop's gate, and as the season was late they had instructed the foreman to use this for gravelling a filling about half a mile away.—The report was adopted. DEPUTATIONS. Messrs. A. Chard a-nd D. Gyde, on behalf of several settlers, waited oil the Board, and asked that a special loan should be raised to metal the Upland road north. They also asked that the engineer should estimate the amount of loan required. The settlers were willing to raise £IOOO. —The engineer is to make an estimate as requested. GENERAL. Mr. Chard asked the Board to supply him with six two-feet concrete pipes to culvert a drain dug by the Board at his entrance.—Application granted. Mr. Turner waited on the Board, and asked that a pipe culvert on the Dudley road should be lowered. —The chairman, Messrs. Lawrence and Corkill will inspect the locality. Mr. A. Corkill was appointed to exercise the Board's vote at the borough and harbor board elections. lhe Treasury notified payment of £IOOO (Mangunui bridge loan), and £IOO (Lincoln road subsidy) to the Board's account. It was resolved to supply an additional 30 yards of metal on the Lepper road, the settlers expressing a willingness to get out further stone. The foreman is to be instructed not to use any concrete pipes of whose soundness he has any doubts. The monthly balance-sheet showed receipts to have been £825 18s 2d (rates £O6O Is 2d, Lincoln road subsidy £1G0), and expenditure £323 (is Bd, leaving a credit balance of£lßl9 19s' Od. Accounts were passed as follows: £2fifi 17s 7d (general), and £.530 14s 3d (loan).
