SATURDAY COMPETITION. This competition was continued on Saturday, and produced some good l cricket. The result of the championship) was not affected, however, as the two leading teams obtained comfortable wins, United Service defeating Ingler wood at the latter place by seven wickets and two runs, whilst on the Recreation Ground Law defeated New Plymouth by 79 runs. Some good individual scores were recorded at Inglewood, Bain, for United Service, carrying his bat for 112, whilst for the local team Gudgeon compiled 60. On the Recreation Grounds the best scores were 50 by Greatbatch and 34 by Lash, both for Law. Elliott put up a fine bowling performance, obtaining seven wickets for 36 runs. INGLEWOOD v. UNITED SERVICE. Inglewood mustered a good team, including Gudgeon and Walter Matthews, whilst Service were minus Bowles and Wood. Inglewood went first to the wickets, and the score totalled 144, of which Gudgeon compiled 66 by good cricket before he was well caught' by Sullivan off Mackay. W. Matthews contributed 26, composed mainly of three mighty lifts for six and one for four off Dinniss. In attempting another six, he was finely caught on the boundary by Mackay. Pullen 14, and Thomas and extras 13 each, were the only other twofigure scorers. Bain and Mackay opened for Service. Both played carefully, but the former hit anything loose, and the score reached 62 before Gudgeon, who was puzzling the batsmen, scattered Mackay's stu r »ps with a full toss. The retiring Imtswan had scored 12. Osborne followed, but though he only added three the total was 92 when he departed.... - Sullivan scored nine ana helped ikin to carry the score to 114 for three wickets. Girling then partnered Bain, who now began to hit out, ana brought up the winning hit without any further loss, Girling carrying his bat for a couple. Bain was "chaired" off the field. His innings was a masterly one, and included 21 fourers. Gudgeon, who bowled unchanged throughout the innings, obtained two wickets for 57 rns. Scores:—

LAW v. NEW PLYMOUTH. In this majch Law batted first, Bewley and Lash opening to McLaren and Goddard. In the former's second over Bewley was caught behind the wickets for four with the total at seven. Clapham and Lawry followed, and assisted Lash in raising the total to 4fi for three wickets. Greatbatch then joined Lash, and a partnership ensued which produced 03 runs before Lash was caughtbehind the wickets for a useful 34. Elliott followed, and the score had reached 127 when Greatbatch was bowled by Goddnrd. Elliott added fifteen, but none of the others got into double figures, and the innings closed for 153. Quillinm made four good catches behind the wickets. New Plymouth in their essay could do nothing against the bowling of Elliott and Hill, who bowled unchanged, the former securing seven for 36, and the latter three for 20, and the innings realised only 74. Arden and Williams obtained 15 each, and McLaren and Bury 10 each. Scores:
