ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A RAILWAY FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. Michael Williams, president of the Westport Labor Union, attended the races yesterday, and this morning was picked up on the side of the railway line between the racecourse and West- • port with a gash on the back of his head and a sear on the forehead. He died in the Hospital this afternoon. It is not known whether he fell off the train, or was knocked over by a passing train. Ho leaves a widow and.a family of five. A MIDNIGHT COLLISION. Christchurch, Last Night. Whilst motoring home in Sydenham shortly after midnight this morning, Dr. Terras Bell ran into a sanitary cart. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was severely damaged, and Dr. Bell, who was alone; in the car, was pinned against the seat by the steering gear. The cart and cat were both carrying regulation lights, but rain wag falling at the time and probably obscured the motorist's vision. Dr. Bell had three ribs broken, and was badly cut about the hands and arms and suli'ered from a severe shock.
