SPORTS AT GERALDINE. Tiniaru, Last Night. St. Patrick's Day sports were held at Gcraldine. Special interest was given these sports by the presence of Holway, Trembath, and McLachlan, each making fine performances. Holway attempted to lower the 140 yds record of 13y 2 Bec, but took 13 4-ssec, having had an uphill rise. Trembath was greatly applauded for a half-mile in lmin 53 4-ssec, but the track was measured and found to be 7y 2 yards short. Finals were:—7syds: Pratt (s'/ 2 yds) 1, Holway (scr) 2, K>nnard (fiyds) 3. 120 yds: Gardiner (10 yds) 1, Kennard (13yds) 2, Holway (scr) 3.' The Okato sports committee was favored with line weather for its fifth annual sports meeting yesterday. Considering the strong counter-attraction in the Opunake races, the attendance was very good. The fields in the various eveuts were good, and the finishes, except in the nalf-mile, close —a tribute to the handicapping of Mr. J. A. Hansen. The track was rather rough. The officials worked well, the secretary having all the arrangements well in hand. No less than seven protests were dealt with. In fact, the wrangling at the end of many of the races marred the pleasure of the meeting. Mr. E. Lecdom had charge of the refreshment booth, and did good business. Constable Egan, of New Plymouth, was present, but his services were not required. Results:— Maiden Flat Race, 150 yards.—First heat: McGiven 1, W. Crockett 2. Five started. Second heat: D.
