Mrs. Barton, a temperance lecturer, obtained a verdict for £5 for libel against the Fair Play newspaper, for stating that she gave a woman brandy. Cross-examined, she stated she could not give a dying child brandy, even if instructed by a doctor. Mr. Justice Pring declared that in such a case she would be guilty of manslaughter if the child died.
