In a storm at Jamberoo, hailstones pierced iron roofs, and raised large lumps where they struck cattle. POTATO BLIGHT. Sydney, March 15. Irish blight, is rapidly spreading over the whole of the northern district. ATTEMPTED SUICTDE. Sydney, March 15. A carpenter, named George Eraser, a recent arrival from New Zealand, attempted suicide by shooting himself and then jumping into the harbor. He was taken to the hospital, where it was found that a bullet was imbedded in his head. STOWAWAYS FINED. Sydney, March 15. Eight stownways by the Manuka were fined £S or two months' imprisonment each. PLAIN ANDREW. Sydney, March 15. At the Mayoral reception to the Federal Prime Minister at Toowoomha, Mr. Fisher, responding to the Mayor's hope that he would return from the Coronation "Sir Andrew," declared that hewould not accept a title of any kind. A BURGLAR SCARED BY WOMEN. Melbourne, March 15. A man, armed with a revolver, entered the Elizabeth street branch post office, and threatened to shoot the postmistress unless she handed over the contents of the till. He started to climb the counter, when he noticed another woman in the telephone box, and bolted. A DESTRUCTIVE CLOUD-BURST. Launceston, March 15. A cloud-burst on the northern slope of Mount Victoria cut a gorge a mile in length and .'! chain in width down to bedrock, denuding the ground of dense forest, and exposing a reef showing indications of good gold. SOLOMON ISLANDS. Sydney. March 15. During recent severe gales in the Solomon Islands the Government steamer Polama was driven ashore and totally wrecked. The crew escaped. The schooner Leveneuwa also was wrecked on the Island of Santiana, but the crew got safely ashore. The storms did considerable damage in the group.
