SYDNEY WEIGHTS DELAYED. j By Gable—Press Association—Copyright.; ■Sydney, March 14. j The declaration 01 the Sydney Cup j and Doncastcr weights has bet;n postponed till Thursday, owing to the delays over the Victorian meeting. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") The Napier Park .Racing Club's autumn meeting opens at Qreenmeadows to-day, and will be concluded to-mor-row. First-rate acceptances have been received, and. racing promises to be of an interesting nature. The hurdler Burton jumps splendidly on the training tracks, but fences very slovenly when the colors are up. A visitor to the Dannevirke meeting tells me that the horse does not appear to stay too well, and that there is more than a suspicion that his heart is not in the right place. Winners at Dannevirke will be penalised nt Napier Park as follows: Napier Paik Cup.—Julian (101b) 7.5; Esk Handicap, Allurement (101b) 7.13; Flying Handicap, Tigerine (161b) 8.0. Altear, winner of the Maiden at Woodville, promises to start a popular fancy in the Sapling Stakes to-day. A. Olliver rode four winners in his best style at Dannevirke, and B. Deeley piloted a brace to victory. An exchange reports that the 'Stralian jockey, P. Moore, has joined Ormond's stable. Provocation is now quite sound again, but will not be put into work until the spring. Hawke's Bay touts are booming Kildonian as a likely National hurdler, and the bay gelding's running at Napier Park will be watched with interest. C. Cress will ride the wonder. Tigerine and Floater were double-win-ners at Dannevirke. Parable and Woodhey, winner and runner-up in last year's Napier Cup, are again engaged, and this time Ormond's mare will be meeting her previous victress on lllbs better terms. Despite his failures at Wanganui, Kopu is sure to have a good following at Napier, where the company will not include any Lady Medallist 'or Merrivonia. Trainer Munn has the chestnut in capital nick. Reported that H. Gray will ride Rauparaha and Toanga in their engagements at Greenmeadows. Entente has been galloping well of late, and it is quite on the cards that the speedy Stepniak colt will make amends for a succession of defeats before long. Opunake acceptances ere a distinct compliment to the club's hsndicapper, and a good day's sport should be enjoyed by those who make the trip to the meeting on Friday. The Opunake Handicap has drawn half-a-dozen acceptors, including Mallet and Valentine. Sevei* teen have paid up for the Welter, Mallet, Monsieur Soult and Bay Paul topping the handicaps. The Flying Hack claims a dozen horses, Valentine, BayPaul and Sandy Paul being in pride of place. Waitapu looks to be in a class of his own in comparison with the others engaged in the Hurdles, but much interest should be attached to the showing of Sir Prize, whose deeds on the flat are well known. As usual, the trots and sprint events have filled well, and the club has good reason to congratulate itself on the generous support of horse-owners. Many local sports have arranged to run down to Opunake on Friday, and given fine weather, a good day's sport is most assuredly promised.
